Tennis - Guadeloupe smiles on Saint-Barth's youngsters

For a little less than a week, the island's two tennis clubs each sent a delegation of young players to Guadeloupe to participate in a series of tournaments. With success! From October 22 to 27, under the supervision of their coach Lee Sorrentino, the young players from the Saint-Barth Tennis Club were able to face players from Guadeloupe, Martinique, Saint-Martin and also Saint-Barth in two tournaments, since eleven Ascco members also made the trip with their coach Grégory Gumbs.
On October 23 and 24 in Les Abymes, the SBTC players recorded very good performances since they won the two youth draws (Orange and Green categories). In "Green", Kaï Beckers won while Léo Landron finished in third place and Jared Bourjac fifth. In "Orange", Sam Landron won the tournament and Enzo Capet finished fifth. During this competition, the SBTC representatives played twenty matches and won seventeen victories.
From October 25 to 27, the small group of the Saint-Barth Tennis Club took the Ti Moun Challenge in Saint-François by storm. A tournament played by invitation. Here again, the SBTC players did not make any details. In "Orange", Sam Landron confirmed his first outing and won the final victory. As for Enzo Capet, he took a nice seventh place. In "Green", Léo Landron did better than in Abymes and moved into first place. Fifth in Abymes, Jared Bourjac this time climbed to second place in the final ranking. At the same time, the SBTC youngsters participated for the first time in a "hard ball" tournament. (unlike the orange or green balls which are "softer") in the 11/12 year-old category. "They faced a very high level," comments the SBTC. Without demerit since Léo Landron, again, finished in eleventh place while Kaël Beckers finished twelfth and Lily Vieira Vandenhove settled into fourth place among the girls.
In two tournaments, the SBTC youth delegation played 46 matches and won 32 victories. " The club is delighted with the very good attitude and good adaptability of our entire team despite the difficulties encountered", comments the management of the SBTC, which refers to the general power outage suffered by Guadeloupe on Friday 26 and Saturday 27 October. The club thanks its partners as well as the local authority for their support.
For the eleven youngsters of Ascco, aged 7 to 14, the tour was just as enjoyable with 40 victories out of 65 matches played. " "It was a fantastic sporting and human experience," assures coach Gregory Gumbs, who highlights the two finals and four semi-finals played by his flock. "Congratulations to my students," he continues, before thanking the club's sponsors and the players' parents.
