Tennis — Two Straight Losses for the SBTC in Guadeloupe

While on the road in Guadeloupe on Saturday, October 17, and Sunday, October 18, to play two matches in the Guadeloupe Championship (first division), the players on the Saint-Barth Tennis Club women’s team faced tough—too tough—opposition. Maëlle Servanton, Charlotte Lions, Fanny Rassat, and Amélie Huart nevertheless defended the club’s and the island’s colors with energy, despite two losses. On Saturday, they lost four of the five matches played against the Ducharmoy team. In each case, they were up against players ranked far higher than themselves. At the end of a hard-fought match, Amélie Huart nevertheless managed to secure a victory (2-6, 6-4, 10-8), while Fanny Rassat came within a hair’s breadth of following suit, losing only after a super tiebreak (4-6, 6-3, 4-10). On Sunday, facing an even stronger Petit-Bourg team, the SBTC players were unable to secure a victory. “Despite this loss, the team continues to improve,” commented the SBTC. The group stage is now over. The date of the women’s team’s next match has not yet been set.
