The Saint-Barth Tennis Club teams played their first matches last Saturday and Sunday. While the men struggled, despite some fine performances, the ladies returned from Guadeloupe with two victories in their pocket. One against ATC and the other against Tie-Break, each time winning four out of five matches. With the women playing in a three-team pool, they have already qualified for the rest of the competition, which will take place in mid-January.
On the men's side, the weekend was a little more complicated. In Guadeloupe, the men's 2 team lost on Saturday (1/5) to the Saint-François team. However, the following day, the SBTC players put up a good fight in Sainte-Rose to earn a draw (3-3). The result featured three fine performances from François Carbonel, who won at 15/4, Jean-Mathieu Sablier at 30 and Martin Gamonal at 30/1.
For Team 1, playing at home in Saint-Jean, the schedule was lighter, with just one match. Facing ATC de Guadeloupe, the local players could only manage a draw (3 wins and 3 losses, including a performance by Frédéric Gastaldi at 15/4).
This Saturday, December 14, Team 2 plays host to the ATP team on the Saint-Jean courts. Team 1 travels to Guadeloupe to take on two teams.
