Huntington Beach in California (USA) is undoubtedly one of the most famous of the iconic surfing venues. From Wednesday to Sunday, the Lexus US Open takes place here. A World Surfing League event in which several French champions are taking part. Tessa Thyssen is one of them. It's so cool to be here," enthuses the member of the Ajoe Reefer Surf Club. A lot of fans are coming to this event, which is just incredible. A few weeks ago, in early July (JSB 1575), Tessa finished on the podium at the Ballito Pro in South Africa. So, for this US Open, her ambitions are on a par with her results. "I'm aiming to reach the final day, which would be great," she says.
For this stage of the WSL, which has been held at Huntington Beach since 1959, other French players have been announced. Mainly Vahiné Fierro, eliminated in the round of 16 at the Olympic Games, and Kauli Vaast. But the latter, who has just been crowned Olympic champion in Tahiti, will certainly be taking a few days off to savour his gold medal. Tessa Thyssen will therefore have to wait before congratulating him in person. For the time being, the Saint-Barth surfer is focused on her goal for the season: to break into the world's top 5.
On Friday August 9, Tessa Thyssen cleared the hurdle in her first series. She beat New Zealand's Sally Fitzgibbons, Japan's Nanaho Tsuzuki and South Africa's Sarah Baum.
