Choreographer and dancer Anthony Despras is returning to Saint-Barth this summer to take part in Summer Dance 2026. His first visit, last year, was a huge hit. The turnout for his jazz dance classes was so high that the sessions were moved to the Ajoe plateau. Anthony still remembers it: “It was the first time I’d taught a class outdoors; it was dark and hot. It was incredible. ” The choreographer, originally from Mâcon, has fond memories of his first visit to the island. That feeling stems largely from the warm welcome he received from Cécile Coudreau, the workshop organizer and president of Ajoe. “She was someone I didn’t know at all, but she radiates such good cheer, a zest for life, and passion that you could really feel it in the dance classes with the students,” Anthony smiles.
A Time for Sharing
During Summer Dance, Ajoe’s summer workshop, classes are open to everyone, regardless of skill level. It’s a philosophy that really appeals to the Paris-based choreographer. “That’s exactly why I dance,” he explains. “When I teach workshops, I want people to enjoy dancing, to share the experience, and to work hard at the same time.” So when Cécile asked him to come back and lead five classes from July 23 to 30, Anthony jumped at the chance: “It was inevitable—I had to come back.” Throughout the year, Anthony Despras has been working on choreographies that are accessible to everyone, while still remaining interesting for those who dance regularly. “I’ve chosen some pretty catchy, upbeat music that makes you want to dance,” Anthony says enthusiastically. “I think we’re going to have a great time.”
Prices: 15 euros per session, 40 euros for three days, 65 euros for five days.
