Rugby - The Barras welcome the two-time defending champions to open the season

The 2024 - 2025 senior championship kicks off this Saturday evening at 7pm for the Barracudas rugby players, who welcome two-time defending champions Good Luck from Gosier (Guadeloupe) to Saint-Jean. It's not just a great match-up, it's a clash that awaits the Saint-Barth public to open the season. The Barras have been warned: the Gosiers have won twice in a row on Saint-Barth soil.
Romain Viriato, coach of Les Ciels et Blancs de Saint-Barth, is well aware of this: "It's a big test for us to see where we stand in terms of preparation. Especially as we've had some departures in the squad this summer, but also some new arrivals! "After two seasons finishing on the third step of the podium, the Barracudas are hoping to do better and are counting on the public to help them! "We know that our fans are warm and always ready to support us, and we're motivated by the idea of facing the Antilles Guyane champions at home," confirms Romain Viriato.
As for the red-and-whites from Le Gosier, the visitors are well aware of the atmosphere and the challenge that awaits them. As Good Luck coach Yani Ribot reminds us: "We know the context of this trip. I've warned the players that after the two previous games we've won in Saint-Barth, Saturday's will be even tougher! Nevertheless, we're going there in good spirits, because we need to get our bearings and, I think, so do they. The Barracudas are a big team, with a fine squad and players who know how to handle the ball. "
And with the reception of the Gosieres so early in the season, Alex Ros and his team-mates will be able to show the public at the Saint-Jean stadium what the 2024-2025 version of the Barracudas are worth. The clash between the Barracudas and Good Luck on the second day of the senior XV rugby championship takes place this Saturday at 7pm at Stade de Saint Jean.
