Rugby - Derby won, championship revived!

After two consecutive defeats, the Saint Jean crowd was expecting a reaction from the Saint Barthélémy players in the northern islands derby. And that's exactly what they got! Focused throughout the match, the Barracudas rediscovered the motivation and commitment that had been sorely lacking in Les Abymes.
"We were determined to redeem ourselves after the lesson we learned two weeks ago against Le Bruc," said Gauthier Perriguet, back in the front eight after several months out with injury. Working together and capitalizing on Saint Martin's mistakes and indiscipline, the sky blues dominated the game and the scoreboard. "We fielded a stronger forward pack than in previous matches, and that was evident in the battle and the collisions," analyzed Gauthier Perriguet. His captain, Gabriel Pont, agreed: "When we manage to scrape balls in defense in our 22 meters several times during the match, we know that the team won't give up for 80 minutes."

An ironclad defense that didn't allow a single point to the evening's opponents and allowed Saint Barth's offensive talents to shine. "At halftime, we were leading 21-0, but we didn't want to stop there because we were afraid of Archiball's reaction. However, they quickly scored a try at the start of the second half, and we took advantage of that to score and then play our rugby," explains captain Gabriel Pont. With two tries from Arnaud Gossens, and tries from Mattéo Umberdis, Nicolas Génito, Gauthier Perriguet, and Enzo Contichello, among others, Saint Barth's attack was in fine form. "We put in a convincing performance in this derby and we want to do the same when we host RC Goyave next month," warns Gabriel Pont. To do so, they will need to maintain the same level of training, with the same number of players, and play with a lot of intensity, which is what the captain and his management team are asking of the group. With two wins and two losses this season, the Barras, who are now in third place in the Elite championship standings, will be starting from scratch, or almost. "We need to maintain this momentum and build on this benchmark match for the season, with the intention of winning every game in Saint-Jean in style." And the Saint Barth crowd will certainly agree with this conclusion put forward by Barracudas flanker Gauthier Perriguet.
