The Grand Prix de pétanque de l'Amicale bouliste de Saint-Barthélemy promises to be an exceptional event. On Friday October 17 and Saturday October 18, four top French champions will be competing. Two world champions, one world champion and one Mediterranean Games gold medallist. Needless to say, spectators can look forward to two days of action on the Plaine des Jeux de Saint-Jean.
Of the four virtuosos of the discipline, the most famous is undoubtedly Michel Loy. Three times world champion (1994, 2004, 2006), three times European champion (2011, 2015, 2023), five times French champion (doublette in 1990 and 2024, triplette in 1996, mixed doublette in 2015, head to head in 2022), his list of victories and other trophies is still long.
Another distinguished guest is Christophe Sarrio. World triplet champion in 2023, winner of the Masters triplet in 2025, he also won the European Cup in 2023, the Petanque Masters in 2019, the Confederations Cup in 2017 and the Millau World Doublet in 2008.
A talented pointer, Ludovic Montoro has put his name down three times for the Masters, in triplette, in 2018, 2019 and 2025. Also in triplette, he was European champion in 2023, French champion in 2016, Marseillaise champion in 2020 and 2021, and more. Finally, the fourth guest is Yohan Cousin. Gold medallist at the Mediterranean Games in 2022, he was also French doubles champion in 2024, before winning the Masters in triples in 2025.
The competition gets underway this Friday at 5pm. With a goal throw and five ranking games. Things get serious on Saturday. From 4 p.m., competitors in groups A and B will battle it out through to the finals. At 5.30 p.m., the Mondiito competition begins. This will be followed by a consolation game in triplet formation.
And since conviviality is always the order of the day at the Grand Prix, it goes without saying that the two days of competition will end with a meal, at Saint-Jean, bringing together licensees and champions.
