By his own admission, the principle of the Infinity Trail Backyard Nancy Lorraine piqued his curiosity. So Nicolas Favreau, a member of 4 Running Saint-Barth, signed up for this very special event, which took place on September 5. With one objective in mind: to surpass his limits!
The Infinity Trail is organized by the Champigneulles athletics club, with the agreement of Trail The World, owner of the Infinity Trail brand and the national circuit. Created by Lazarus Lake, organizer of the famous and legendary Barkley in Tennessee, the concept of the event is very simple: loops of less than an hour are run over a 6.7-kilometer course. There is a start every hour. The loop must be completed in less than an hour. Participants can then rest while waiting for the next start. For example, if a runner completes the loop in 45 minutes, he has 15 minutes' rest before the next start. If he completes the loop in 58 minutes, he has just 2 minutes' rest.
You have to be at the starting line every hour, otherwise you're disqualified," says Nicolas. The idea is to surpass yourself and cover as many kilometers as possible, the strategy being to rest but not too much so as not to get too cold. My goal was to do 10 loops, which is 67.7 km. "But after a midday start under clear skies, Nicolas managed to go further than he had imagined. "I was able to go beyond my limits thanks to the assistance of my children and my partner, who were there every hour during the short break to give me food and drink," says Nicolas.
He gave up after 11 hours of running, 74 kilometers and 1,200 meters of ascent. Muscle fatigue and the cool Nancy weather (12 degrees) at the start of the night got the better of me," he says. I'm satisfied with my race and would like to repeat the experience as soon as possible. "His goal: to complete 15 loops and 100 kilometers. "For the next Infinity Trail, when the opportunity arises," he says. At the end of 24 hours and 160 kilometers, only four of the 140 starters remained in the race. This first edition was won after 32 loops, i.e. 214.4 km and over 3,300 m of positive altitude difference.
