On Lorenzo Mayer’s calendar, the dates for the 20th edition of the Mediterranean Games have been marked for many months. Selected to be part of the French delegation, the young champion is competing in the solo dinghy event on an ILCA 7. He’s representing not only France but also his island and his club, the Saint-Barth Yacht Club. Lorenzo entered the competition on Thursday, August 27, during the qualifying round. “We have six days of competition plus one reserve day, so we’ll finish on September 2,” explains the sailor. Having arrived earlier this week in Taranto, the host city of the Games, the six members of the French delegation have been getting their bearings on Italian waters. “The weather is beautiful and very hot,” says Lorenzo. “The atmosphere is really cool. We’re staying in the village on two cruise ships, on military grounds, so that makes things a bit epic! I feel good, I’m well-prepared, so we’ll see how it goes. I’m going to give it my all for Saint Barthélemy.”
