The young rugbymen and rugbywomen of Saint-Barth didn't come here for nothing! Joining forces with the Archiballs of Saint Martin to form the "Archibarras", the U8s, aged 6 to 7, won the gold shield in their category, winning all their matches. The youngsters were galvanized by the presence of their parents, who had travelled all the way from Saint-Barthélemy to cheer on their children from the sidelines.
As for the U10s, although they failed to retain their gold shield as they had last year, they still came away with third place and the bronze shield! A fine harvest for Saint-Barth rugby, in what remains the biggest rugby schools tournament in the West Indies. For courageous Emma, U10, the tournament was a great experience: "We played on the Good Luck pitch, with the Saint-Martin players against all the other teams. I liked it because there were lots of games and we scored tries, and I like tackling too. "
It was a similar experience for Paul, who plays in the U8 category, and who came to Guadeloupe with his team of 11 little Barracudas, as well as his dad. Paul had a great time: "Rugby is my favorite sport, because the best thing is to score but also to tackle. My dad's here, he's happy because I played well, he's proud of me. "Sources inside the club even tell us that Paul's dad shed a "little tear" when he saw his son lift the winners' trophy in his category... Nathan Benchimol, head educator of the small delegation, was delighted with the friendly, sporting weekend: "We came with around twenty kids and about the same number of parents. In agreement with Saint Martin, we represent the northern islands, and there's a great atmosphere among us. It's a great weekend. The parents come with us, which is a plus for the kids and for us as educators. Parents are curious, so they wanted to see what it was like to travel with little rugby players, and I don't think they're disappointed! They're even the ones who cheer the kids loudest around the pitch [laughs]? "And that's how you can tell that a trip is a success for rugby's youngest categories.
