The legendary Saint Barth Cata Cup soon to hit the waves

Once again, the battle on the water promises to be spectacular. From November 19 to 23, the Saint Barth Cata Cup will bring together the regattas of the F18 international circuit. Forty-eight crews will take part in the 17th edition of the sailing competition, among whom ten nationalities are represented: Australians, Argentinians, French, Swedes, Americans, Belgians, Dutch...

The best sailors in the sport are on hand to challenge each other on the technical waters around the island. Australians Brett Burvill and Max Putman, who finished third at the last F18 World Championships, are among those taking part. On the European side, Jean-Christophe Mourniac and his son Tim Mourniac will also be competing. But in two different pairs: the father with Benjamin Amiot, aboard Emmanuel Boulogne's new Cirrus 3, and the son with Pierre-Yves Durand. The latter two have already won the Saint Barth Cata Cup in 2022.
The 2023 world champion, Sweden's Rasmus Rosengren, will take to the circuit as a team with Belgium's Henri Demesmaeker, who will also face his father. Patrick Demesmaeker will be partnered by Olivier Gagliani. Another legendary duo, with seventeen participations to their credit, including two victories and a second-place finish last year.
Amateur and licensed sailors wishing to take on the professionals can register from Sunday November 16 to Tuesday November 18 at the Capitainerie. So far, four local crews have already registered, according to Elodie Ghezzi, event coordinator. And for those staying ashore, a race village will be open to the public at l'Émeraude plage in Saint-Jean, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday to Sunday. Spectators will be able to watch the start of the race. Concerts and shows will be held at GypSea Beach on Friday and Saturday evenings. The prize-giving ceremony on Sunday will also take place at the beach venue.
