During the Easter break, the Saint-Barth Jujitsu Club welcomed a leading figure in the world of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu: Laurence Fouillat, a 4th-degree black belt with an exceptional career. In 2007, she became the first European to win the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu World Championships. In 2021, she was a finalist at the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu World Championships (losing to Amal Amjahid), and the following year she won a bronze medal in the individual competition and a gold medal in the team event at the 2022 World Games in Alabama (United States).
In St. Barths, Laurence Fouillat coached young jiu-jitsu practitioners during a week-long training camp, with the program focusing on teaching techniques and sharing her passion and positive energy. The adult jiu-jitsu practitioners were not forgotten. She shared her experience, expertise, and values—such as discipline, respect, and perseverance—with them and with students from the Renzo Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Sint Maarten who had come for the occasion.
