Three triathletes from Saint Barth at the Ironman 70.3 in Puerto Rico

Among the athletes at the starting line of the Ironman 70.3 in Puerto Rico on Sunday, March 15, were three triathletes from Saint Barth: Stéphane Lenoir, Fabien Husson, and Sylvain Guy. The local triathletes completed the course (a 1.9 km swim, a 90 km bike ride, and a 21 km run) with times of 4:36:15, 4:36:57, and 6:06:42, respectively.
After three years without competing in long-distance triathlons, Fabien Husson is back in shape and finished this Ironman in 4th place in his M35-39 age group. “It’s always a pleasure to return to this event,” says Fabien. “The main goal was to see where I stand physically. I had a solid swim, close to my previous times, and a bike leg in 2:19—a personal best that confirms the progress I’ve made in this discipline. I’m very happy with the result and this return to the distance. The year is off to a good start; now it’s time to focus on my next goals. ” Those goals are the Saint-Martin Mini-Tri and the SBH Triathlon Swimrun, and starting in May: “I’m focusing on cycling, with my main goal this year being the Unbound Gravel 325km on May 31.”
Meanwhile, in his first competition of the year, Stéphane Lenoir took first place on the podium in his M50-54 category. “I really like this race for its convenience since it’s only an hour from Saint-Barth,” notes Stéphane. Despite a swimming segment that was “more challenging” than usual—he came out of the water in 13th place in his category—he finished first in the other two disciplines. “I finished first in my category, so I’m very satisfied with my race.” A challenging schedule awaits Stéphane, starting in early April with the Miami Hyrox, followed by the SBH Triathlon Swimrun (April 19), the Unbound Gravel 200-mile race in May, and the Ironman Lake Placid in mid-July, all with the goal of qualifying for Hawaii in early October.
In the same category (M50-54), a “young” athlete, Sylvain Guy, crossed the finish line in 30th place. “I’m still happy with my result, especially for an old-timer like me who only started the sport 10 years ago… thanks to—or because of—my friend Stéphane Lenoir!”
Congratulations to them!
