Underwater Hockey - Successful First Match Between Saint Barthélemy and Guadeloupe

For the first time, the Saint-Barthélemy underwater hockey team traveled to Guadeloupe for a weekend to face off against the local club “Citron Bleu” in a friendly tournament focused on discovery and camaraderie. It was a memorable first. On Sunday, the two teams faced off in a series of matches. “Beyond the results, it was the technical skills and the quality of play that left a lasting impression,” noted Gaël Thebault of the Saint-Barth club. According to the local players, the exchanges in the pool were “very friendly, enjoyable, but challenging,” and they were thrilled to discover “a new style of play and new opponents in the Caribbean.”
But the success of this weekend also unfolded outside the water. “We met people who were passionate,” the participants shared. After the mini-tournament, a shared meal allowed for further exchanges and experiences, and strengthened the bonds between the two clubs. A true human connection, celebrated by all.
The Saint-Barth team extends a warm thank you to everyone who made this project possible, the “Citron Bleu” association for their hospitality and organization, as well as the local government and the CoReGua association (Guadeloupe Regional Committee of the FFESSM federation), which supported the event through grants and subsidies. “This first inter-island tournament paves the way for future exchanges,” says Gaël, and the two clubs have already agreed to meet again for a rematch…
If you’d like to join them, head to the local pool on Wednesdays and Fridays from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. For more information, contact Gaël at 0690 49 09 40.
