Saint-Barth - Golf Laurent Cathelot

la Saint-Barth Cup Laurent Cathelot, membre de l’association de golf de Saint-Barth, annonce la tenue de la première Saint-Barth Cup, le 6 décembre à Sint Maarten.

Golf - First edition of the Saint-Barth Cup

Just over four years ago, a golf association was created on Saint-Barthélemy. The association now has 25 members on the island and will be organizing its first competition on December 6. The event is called the Saint-Barth Cup, but in the absence of a playing field, it will be held on the Mullet Bay course in Sint Maarten. The Saint-Barth Cup will bring together fifteen players from Saint-Martin, fifteen from Sint Maarten and another fifteen from Saint-Barthélemy. "With Saint-Martin and Anguilla, there are strong links between players," says Laurent Cathelot, one of the founders of the Saint-Barth association. Unfortunately, Anguilla's players won't be taking part in this first edition. Nevertheless, for the Saint-Barthélemy association, it's an event. For several reasons. Firstly, to publicize its existence on the island, but also to assert its desire to represent the island at external competitions. Visibility is essential to support a golf course project in Saint-Barth. When you think of golf, you think of wide open spaces," explains Laurent Cathelot. But to create a driving range, a piece of land the size of the archery club's is enough. "This is an important issue for the association which, for the time being and due to the absence of a playing area in Saint-Barth, cannot join the French Golf Federation."This would offer the possibility of training young players," stresses Laurent Cathelot. For the moment, however, the island's golfers are looking ahead to their first major event, on December 6 in Sint Maarten.
