Michael Da Silva Pereira took part in the Guadeloupe Academic Chess Championship on Saturday February 15. The competition took place at the Collège Bois Rada in La Boucan. The 54 participants (U10 and U12) played 7 rounds of 2x15 minutes. Michael dispatched the first part in 2 minutes against the future 15th. The 2nd game didn't last much longer: victory in 4 minutes over 18°. The 3rd game was a little tougher against the 7th, who nonetheless suffered the same fate. After his 3 victories against Chicks, Michael now had to face Pupils (U12). He beat the future 14th and finished the morning with 4 out of 4! Then it was off to the afternoon. In the 5th round, he lost to the 2nd and in the 6th he narrowly lost to the 3rd. To keep his chances of a podium finish alive, he had to win the 7th round against an opponent tied on points. Mission accomplished, Michael finished in 6th place, but in 2nd place among the chicks. The young Saint-Barth Echecs licensee therefore returned home with the title of Academic Vice-Champion for the U10 age group. For his first outing outside Saint-Barth, "it's a real success", enthused his coach Jeff Follner. Michael Da Silva Pereira thanks all those who donated to the trip. Now it's on to the French championship, for which he is looking for sponsors. If you would like to support him, please contact the president of Saint-Barth Echecs on 06.90.55.12.14.
