Two chess tournaments were organized last weekend by the Saint-Barth Echecs association. The first brought young players together at the harbor master’s office for the youth championship, featuring 2x10-minute games. Hortense Lebrun dominated the tournament, winning the title with 8 wins out of 8 games played. “Her consistency allowed her to control all her games against resigned boys who will have to put in much more effort in training,” notes Jef Follner. Kenzo Questel finished 2nd and Adam Edery 3rd.
The following day, Sunday, the association’s first online blitz tournament was held on the lichess.org platform. The tournament brought together 15 players, including four from Saint Barth and five from Saint Martin. Milo Scheeren dominated the competition, winning 14 out of 14 games played. With 28 points, he finished ahead of Saint Martin champion Yashwant Vaswani (19 pts) and Mickael Régniez (18 pts). Jef Follner finished 4th and Thierry Isaac 6th. The Saint Barth team defeated the Saint Martin team 66 to 40.
