Saint-Barth - Lolie Osswald

Trophies for the island's sportsmen and women

Throughout the year, on sports stages in the Caribbean, France and sometimes other countries, they all represent the island of Saint-Barthélemy. Some at the highest level of their discipline. These sportsmen and women have many things in common: passion, commitment, willpower, and so on. But the one thing they all have in common is that they have all been awarded a territorial grant in 2023 and 2024, which will bring them together this Saturday at 6pm on the Collectivité's forecourt for the Trophées du Sport ceremony. Needless to say, this is not the only reason why these young figures from Saint-Barthélemy are invited, along with their families and the general public, to take part in the event. The event also aims to highlight the work of the associations in which they were trained. Whether as educators, managers or volunteers.
Today, the majority of these sportsmen and women are involved in structures outside the island. This is for school reasons, of course, but also because the practice of their discipline requires them, if not to travel, at least to be present throughout the year at regional, national or international competitions. As a result, getting them all to Saint-Barth at the same time is no easy task. The approach of the Christmas holidays therefore seems to be the most propitious time, as most of these champions (some of whom have already hatched) take advantage of the winter break to be with their families.
At the ceremony, each athlete will be presented with a trophy and prizes. On stage, they will be accompanied by the person who helped train them in Saint-Barthélemy. It's another way of paying tribute to the commitment of the people who work all year round in the island's sports associations. An activity that often occupies part of their evenings and weekends.
