At the same time as the 168 participants in the Marche rose took to the road on Sunday, October 26, the second edition of the open-water swimming relay race got underway. 60 swimmers of all levels, divided into 15 teams of four, covered eight times 400 meters, with an "Australian-style" exit. The event was part of the Pink October campaign, with the organizers deducting 5 euros from registration fees, raising a total of 300 euros which will shortly be donated to the Ligue contre le cancer.
The "Australian-style" exit, the key concept of this race imported from the other side of the world, spiced up the classic swimming course. Swimmers exit the water at the halfway point, run around a buoy on the beach and then re-enter the water to complete the 400-meter swim. Jessica Pearson and Jean-Marc Outil of Saint-Barth Triathlon, organizers of the event, imported the concept after a trip to Australia. "We really wanted a fun race that could accommodate all levels. There was one person who hadn't swum in 20 years! "confided Jessica during the first edition.
Record broken
The winning team, comprising Joris Bouchaut, Adélaïde Le Gac, Coline Gaborit and Chloé Cohan, completed the 3,200-meter swim in 1 hour and 6 seconds, beating last year's record by more than 3 minutes. Less than 10 seconds separated the top two teams. The team led by Théo Estasse -Aleksander Marinkovik, Lou Autefault, Joy Berlemont- finished in 1 hour and 16 seconds.
This sporting event took place in a "great atmosphere and everyone had a great time", emphasized Jean Marc Outil, president of St Barth Triathlon.Outil, President of St Barth Triathlon, while pointing out that, following the positive feedback, this relay swim race is now part of the club's calendar. He also thanked all the volunteers, and all those present on the sand and in the water to ensure everyone's safety.
