With the goal of reviving the spirit of relaxation, camaraderie, and simplicity that has long defined beach volleyball on the island, as well as making this gathering an annual event—with the aim of inviting even more Caribbean islands to participate in the future— the Ouanalao Beach Volley sports association is organizing an inter-island beach volleyball tournament on Saturday, March 21, and Sunday, March 22, at the Saint-Jean sports field. This event will bring together twenty-one teams from Saint Martin, Sint Maarten, Saint Kitts, and of course seven local teams in a spirit of both competition and camaraderie: The Beach Babes (Mélina Scordia and Salomé Gauthier), NRV (Léna Kaczmarek and Rossella Grimaldi), No Rush (Mélanie Lédée and Aude Vermillard), Volley Bald (Anthony Ruhuant and Ryan Peter-Gréaux), Le J c’est le R (Romain Bourseau and Justin
Becaglia), Spartiates (Pierre Brouard and Alexandre Riou), and Cappuccino (Leonardo Gianola and David Aubin). The announced participation of top-level players from various clubs promises a great sporting spectacle. “Usually, the association’s players travel to neighboring islands to participate in tournaments,” the organizers note. “This time, we wanted to host the teams ‘at home’ so they can experience beach volleyball in Saint-Barth and enjoy the local atmosphere.” Meanwhile, the organizers are also hosting a belote tournament on Saturday starting at 1:30 p.m., as well as a musical evening with DJ Toubax starting at 8 p.m.
