The rain showers that punctuated the day on Saturday, October 10, did not derail the Karibbean Beach Tennis tournament. Over the course of two days—since the competition began on Friday evening—no fewer than 37 matches were played on the courts at the Saint-Jean sports complex. “I found that starting the tournament in the evening (on Friday) allowed us to play fewer matches in the heat the next day and to finish the tournament well before the boat’s departure, despite the bad weather,” says Julie Labrit of KBT.
Furthermore, the competition was of a high standard. “There were a lot of great tiebreakers and close sets, which reflects a fairly even level of play,” Julie noted.
In the main draw, Julie Labrit and Willan Dolmin defeated Maëlis Farlot and Jules Lamort. Sabrina Goubard and Mathys Dolmin took third place.
Twelve teams competed in the three youth categories. In the under-16 division, Mattéo Lagarrigue and Clément Le Normand Carré took the title. In the under-12 and under-14 divisions, Lia Mendes Carvalho and Mila Tinghir won the girls’ titles, while João Mendes Carvalho and Raphaël Chirouze won the boys’ titles.
KBT would like to extend its thanks to everyone who made the tournament possible: Patrick and the Collectivité’s technical services, Laurent from the lodging center, Françoise for officiating, La Petite Colombe for the sandwiches and cakes, and the “active or very active” members of the association: Sandrine, Cédric M., Charlie, Valentin, Antoine, Raph, Cedric G., Pauline, and Vincent. Not to mention the businesses: A vos marques, the Gustavia pharmacy, and the Beauty Secrets salon.
The KBT’s next competition will be on November 21, featuring a BT250 tournament for both women and men.
