Beach tennis: Girls win bronze at the French Championships

Adults weren’t the only ones to shine at the French Beach Tennis Championships, held August 19–22 in Saint-Georges-de-Didonne (Charente-Maritime). While Julie Labrit and Sophie Jeanjean (Karribean Beach Tennis) won the gold medal in the over-45 division (JSB 1677), Laurarose Kurschat (Ouanalao Beach Club) and Charlotte Martinez (KKO Beach Club de Saint-Martin) also flew the flag high for the Caribbean. In fact, aged 16 and 18 respectively, the two players won the bronze medal in the under-18 category.
“Facing stiff competition and the best French pairs of their generation, Laurarose and Charlotte had a remarkable run,” said Ingrid Thomas, president of the Ouanalao Beach Club. “The duo suffered only one loss during the competition—against the future French champions—before bouncing back perfectly to claim the bronze medal. It was a champion’s response and, above all, a magnificent reward for two young players who so skillfully represent beach tennis in our territories.”
The president is delighted to see Laurarose’s full potential—which has been evident for several seasons on the courts of Saint-Barth—finally come to fruition. “As a member of Ouanalao Beach Tennis, she has flown the island’s colors high all the way to the national stage,” adds Ingrid Thomas, who also makes a point of acknowledging the performances of Mariangela Dallalonga, Mowgli Bœuf, Kevin Vaudelle, and Laurent Delaval.
