The young Pelicans secured two more victories on Saturday, March 21, at the Saint-Jean playground. The under-11 players dominated both matches against their counterparts from the Let’s Do It club in Sandy Ground (Saint Martin). These were two strong performances that will boost their confidence ahead of hosting the under-11 team from the Phoenicks of Saint Martin and the under-13 team from Robbie’s Star (Sint Maarten) this Saturday, March 28, in Saint Barth.
“The team had to go all out in these two matches,” explains Pelican’s coach Simon Malbranche. “What tipped the scales in the first game was the commitment and focus of every player. A hunger to win, a suffocating defense, and a well-structured game.” The result was a decisive 16-4 victory.
In the second game, things were more complicated. “In an electric atmosphere, thanks in particular to the parents who cheered them on from the first to the last minute,” notes the coach. Trailing early in the game (0–6), the Pelicans managed to turn the tide. Simon Malbranche highlights the commitment of captain Matéo and standout player Taïno. The coach emphasizes the team’s “great spirit,” which allowed them to turn the game around and secure the win (16–12).
It’s worth noting that during these two matches, the young players from Saint-Barth wore mismatched socks (but neither yellow nor green) in observance of World Down Syndrome Day.
