Thomas Rebut and Laurent Delaval will run the 21 km race in Saint-Barth to raise funds for the Gustave Roussy Institute.
On Sunday, May 10, more than 300 runners are expected to take the starting line for the 21-kilometer race in Saint-Barthélemy. Among them, eighteen participants will be doing more than just aiming for a good performance. All have agreed to join the initiative conceived by Laurent Delaval and Thomas Rebut. Specifically, they’ve committed to running the race to raise funds for the Gustave Roussy Institute, the cancer research center based in Villejuif in the Val-de-Marne department. To do so, each runner will take on the course wearing the colors of one or more sponsors. For every kilometer run, a sum will be donated directly to the institute. “There’s no middleman,” explains Thomas Rebut. “We don’t see the money.”
“I’m a competitor,” says Laurent Delaval. “I know I couldn’t win the 21-kilometer race, and my personal motivation wasn’t enough. So I figured doing it for Gustave Roussy would be a source of motivation.” It’s an idea that has appealed to other running enthusiasts. “And then, by getting sponsored per kilometer, even if we don’t finish the race, there will still be money,” he notes.
Among the announced participants in this charity event is the president of the territorial council, Xavier Lédée. Given the flood of posts by the elected official on so-called “social” media, his participation should guarantee media exposure. A little bonus, in short.
The registered runners: Laurent Delaval, Thomas Rebut, Christophe Guyot, Aleksandar Marinkovic, Gaël the painter, Alexis Lambert, Benoît Penverne, Côme Leduc, Kevin Vaudelle, Stéphanie Lebert, Xavier Lédée, Morgane de Jurançon, Antoine Durand Yon, Hugo Loisel, Marine Legendre, Nicolas Merlet, Loula Merlet, Thomas Tinghir.
