Held last weekend in Saint-Jean, the 10th edition of the Saint-Barthélemy Bowling Association (ABSB) Grand Prix brought together 45 doubles teams, marking a great success both in terms of sportsmanship and public participation.
“It’s been a very positive experience!” said Anastasia Tzanis, president of the ABSB. “Reaching 45 doubles teams is truly satisfying and a wonderful recognition of our volunteers’ hard work.”
Champions and Top-Level Competition
The crowd at the Gambier boulodrome was treated to a high-level spectacle thanks to the presence of iconic figures in the sport: champions Philippe Suchaud and Sandrine Poinsot, as well as international referee Patrick Grignon. In keeping with tournament tradition, the distinguished guests played in doubles with local members.
Thanks to the support of the club’s partners and sponsors, a total prize pool of 5,000 euros was distributed among the top teams, starting with the round of 16 in Competition A and the quarterfinals in Competition B. “The goal was to offer an attractive prize pool and recognize the teams’ performances, both in the main competition and in Competition B.”
In Competition A, the victory went to the duo of Pascale Montorio and Tanguy Penin, ahead of local players Tony Gomez and Hassan Bouazzaoui (ABSB). In Competition B, Samuel and David Alagapin from Guadeloupe prevailed over the young players Ethan Aubin (a student at the ABSB pétanque school) and Célian Daviaud (ABSB/Cariboule St-Martin).
Spotlight on the Youth
The event concluded on Wednesday, October 28, with the Youth Grand Prix. For the club, which now has 76 members, nurturing the next generation is a priority: “Our young players were able to watch the champions up close. This Grand Prix shows them that they have a rightful place in this event,” concluded the president.
