On Thursday December 12, firefighters from the Service territorial d'incendie et de secours were called out to a particularly complex incident on the rocks of Grands Galets beach (Shell Beach). A man in his sixties suffered serious injuries to his leg after a fall, and had to be treated. The extremely difficult access required the commitment of considerable resources and the implementation of a technical maneuver by the specicialists from the Unité de Sauvetage d'Appui et de Recherche (Usar) to safely lower the victim, who was then treated by the Smur.
This demanding operation mobilized 14 firefighters, a specialized team, a drone and lighting equipment to ensure the victim's safe evacuation to Bruyn hospital.
Lieutenant Thomas Charmillon, emergency operations commander, praised the responsiveness and efficiency of the responders: "Professional firefighters, volunteers, seasonal workers, they were all on call, on duty or even off duty, but they all responded with a common objective. In front of me, I had a perfect sample of the diversity and strength of our civil security model! "
