Firefighters are training in highway rescue

The car is lying on its side. The situation is critical. Fortunately, firefighters from the Regional Fire and Rescue Service (Stis) are already on the scene to respond. But on this Saturday, May 16, it is only a drill. Or rather, one of the stages of a twenty-seven-hour training course (including four hours at night) on road rescue methods.
Since March, a new team has been established within the STIS 977 training office with a clear goal: to revitalize life at the fire station through the development of training, operational drills, and the enhancement of staff skills. It is within this framework that the first road rescue training session of this new organization is being held on Saturday, May 16, and Sunday, May 17. This session brings together twelve trainees supervised by four instructors, following an intensive program combining theory, practical workshops, and realistic professional scenarios.

For the trainees, the goal is to master techniques for marking and securing the scene, securing and stabilizing vehicles, extrication, and the care and rescue of victims in traffic accidents.
The exercises are conducted under conditions close to reality thanks to a partnership established with Paprec Énergies. “The company provides the vehicles designated for destruction as well as all the logistics necessary for the smooth execution of on-site maneuvers,” explains Chief Warrant Officer Aurélien Rasse, a volunteer firefighter at the Saint-Barth fire station and an instructor. “When we arrive, everything is in place,” he says with satisfaction.
The training will conclude with a final day on May 31.
