Throughout the first week of October, organizations that work with older adults on a daily basis (nonprofits, local governments, social service centers, senior care facilities, etc.) are invited to organize activities for and with older adults. This is part of a national event called “La Semaine Bleue.” It is a week dedicated to retirees and older adults, aimed at highlighting the role of older adults in our society and the importance of intergenerational bonds. In Saint-Barthélemy, as it does every year, the Louis-Vialenc Residential Care Facility for the Elderly (Ehpad) is organizing a series of gatherings and activities.
The week began with the arrival of a brand-new vehicle designed to transport people with limited mobility. This addition was eagerly awaited by both the facility’s staff and its residents. On Tuesday, October 6, a pétanque event was held in the Ehpad’s gardens. On Wednesday, sports activities awaited the residents. This Thursday, an afternoon snack is being held in the garden, featuring some local treats and crêpes. Tomorrow, Friday, October 9, the Red Cross will offer activities, followed by a cocktail reception at the end of the day.
Finally, on Sunday, the nursing home is hosting a convivial dinner for its residents. It goes without saying that family members are welcome to attend each activity. The goal of Blue Week is to bring generations together.
