Since the beginning of the year, the Maison de la santé de Saint-Jean has welcomed over 2,400 patients for consultations. The results provide a clearer picture of the demand for healthcare and the success of the facility, which will be inaugurated in October 2023 by the Collectivité. Thanks to the combined efforts of Carole Nardin, health coordinator, and Victoria Gandoulf, administrative management assistant, the Maison de la santé has succeeded in attracting various specialists from the West Indies and France.
This is notably the case with dermatologist Dr Bregeon, who will be travelling from La Rochelle from November 10 to 18 to see patients. To date, 173 appointments have already been booked, including 11 for surgical procedures. The specialist already spent five days with us in May. Her consultations are in addition to those of doctors Bellenoue and Olivier, who come twice a month from Saint-Martin. Since January, no fewer than 860 patients have been seen by dermatologists at the Maison de la Santé. 103 surgeries and biopsies have been carried out on site.
In addition to the specialist consultations offered at Gustavia's Irénée de Bruyn hospital, the Maison de la santé also provides access to a range of other practitioners. In cardiology, a team of four cardiologists led by Dr. Boulogne, based on Saint-Martin, follow the cases of patients from Saint-Barthélemy. A total of 340 patients have been seen over the past five months. Seven examinations revealed the need for hospitalization in Martinique.
In addition, Dr Kadji, an angiologist who has been practicing in Saint-Barth for many years, travels from Guadeloupe every month for five days of consultations. This has benefited 499 patients since January.
Professor Teillac, a urologist, provides consultations at the hospital and at the Maison de la Santé, where he has seen 84 patients. Psychomotricist Madame Arnell travels from Saint-Martin every Monday and carried out 96 consultations in 2024.
In April, Paris-based neurologist Dr. Feve saw 22 patients during a stay on the island. Dr Couratier, based in Guadeloupe, may take over at the Maison de la Santé in the coming months.
A psychiatrist based on Saint-Martin, Dr. Chaibeddra travels to Saint-Barth every weekend to see five to ten patients. In another field, a pediatrician, Dr. Bailly, provides teleconsultations from France on request.
In August, the Maison de la Santé was also visited by Parisian gynecologist Dr. Nathalie Lédée, who saw 14 patients whom she is now following up remotely before their next consultations in Saint-Barth.
Last but not least, the premises also accommodate appointments scheduled by the occupational medicine department. In 2024, 389 people were examined.
