While waiting for a new hospital to be built in Gustavia, the current facility continues to equip itself. In November, the management of the Irénée de Bruyn hospital inaugurated a third treatment room in the emergency department. A "box 3" equipped thanks to the generosity of Fémur (Fondation pour l'équipement médical d'Fémur (Fondation pour l'équipement médical d'urgence), which donated two stretchers, a wet bench, a treatment cart, wall storage units and a waste garbage can. These donations from Fémur add to the 143,250 euros already donated in 2025. The Centre hospitalier Irénée de Bruyn extends its sincere thanks to Le Fémur for its unwavering commitment and invaluable support," says a press release. Thanks to these contributions, the facility continues to improve patient comfort, safety and well-being, while guaranteeing quality care for the population. "
Le Fémur has also helped to equip the Maison de la santé, in Saint-Jean, with over 100,000 euros in donations since it opened at the end of 2023.
At the territorial council meeting on October 23, the elected representatives adopted a resolution endorsing the project to build a new healthcare facility on the site of the current hospital in Gustavia. Funding for the project is estimated at 33.3 million euros, broken down as follows: 28.8 million from the Collectivité territoriale and the remaining 4.5 million from the budget allocated to Saint-Barthélemy as part of the Ségur de la santé program. In early December, the eight elected members of the Action-Équilibre group, who voted "against" the project presented to the Territorial Council on October 23, submitted a request to the President of the Collectivité for a meeting of the elected representatives. Their aim is to obtain a consultation of the population in order to choose between the current Gustavia site and another, located in Saint-Jean, to build the new hospital. For the time being, no meeting of the territorial council has been officially announced for the elected representatives to decide on the holding of a possible consultation.
