The management of the Irénée de Bruyn Hospital Center announces the opening of a new service to support seniors at home. The Home Nursing Service (SSIAD) officially opened on May 1st. "This represents a major step forward in providing home care for seniors on the island," the management stated in a press release. This service is designed to provide daily support to people over 60. "The SSIAD's mission is to preserve the autonomy of beneficiaries by providing them with hygiene and comfort care at home, while supporting family caregivers and actively participating in the prevention of loss of autonomy," the management explained. "It also helps avoid or delay hospitalizations or placements in institutions."
The hospital emphasizes that the new service is fully in line with public health priorities, particularly in light of the aging population and the shared desire to develop alternatives to institutional care. Furthermore, it strengthens the availability of community care on the island.
Comprised of a multidisciplinary team (qualified nursing assistants and a coordinating nurse), the service provides direct access to the recipients' homes, upon medical prescription (attending physician or hospital practitioner), in close collaboration with other healthcare providers in the area. It is fully covered by health insurance.
For the director of the healthcare facility, Éric Djamakorzian, the implementation of this new service represents a remarkable step forward. He explains: "The launch of the SSIAD, which has been in the making for several years, is one of the milestones in the project to establish the Bruyn Hospital Center. It aims to complement the public healthcare offerings on the island. The SSIAD is part of a care system that allows patients to remain at home while benefiting from care that does not require hospitalization but is necessary. It also allows families and caregivers to provide support to those who wish to remain at home." This represents a further step forward on the island in expanding the range of healthcare services available when needed."
For all requests, all you need is a medical prescription and to contact the coordinating nurse by phone (06 90 52 32 44) to arrange an initial home assessment visit.
End of Interim Directorship of Saint-Martin Hospital for Eric Djamakorzian
Since September 2024, the director of the Irénée de Bruyn Hospital Center in Saint-Barthélemy, Eric Djamakorzian, has been entrusted with the interim directorship of the Saint-Martin hospital. This temporary assignment ended earlier this week, the JSB has learned. This news was confirmed by the director, who, for more than seven months, had been forced to travel back and forth between Saint-Barthélemy and Saint-Martin. The interim directorship was entrusted to him following the abrupt departure of Anne Calais, who was herself appointed interim director due to the extended sick leave of the director of Saint-Martin's healthcare facilities, Marie-Antoinette Lampis-Pattus. This has been the case since mid-2023. While the Regional Health Agency has not yet announced the end of this interim period, it appears that a solution has been found to replace Marie-Antoinette Lampis-Pattus. Éric Djamakorzian will therefore be able to resume full-time the position for which he was first appointed in Saint-Barthélemy: director of the Irénée de Bruyn Hospital.
