Like every year, the month of October is synonymous with the color pink. For a month, a communication campaign is being launched by La Ligue contre le cancer and other organizations to raise awareness of breast cancer, in particular by encouraging women over 50 and men to go for screening. In Saint-Barth too, several actions are planned to highlight this cause. On Tuesday, October 1, Paprec launched its communication campaign. Every Tuesday, employees at the waste management site will be swapping their usual orange polo shirts for pink ones, embellished with the familiar pink ribbon and the classic Paprec logo on the back.
The Collectivité de Saint-Barthélemy and the hospital have joined forces to offer a series of events. At the market on Sunday October 6, a stand will be set up to sell ribbons and keyrings. On Friday October 18, a conference on breast cancer screening and care will be given by Dr Bartoli and Dr Laruelle at the Salle de la Capitainerie at 8pm. The following day, Saturday October 19, a time of exchange between patients undergoing treatment and patients in remission will be offered at 4.30pm in the hospital garden. Then, from 7:30 p.m. to midnight, a " pink evening " will be organized at the Arawak restaurant. On Sunday, October 20, a 3.5-kilometre walk will take place at 6.30 a.m. in the hospital parking lot. Of course, the dress code is pink. And as screening remains the main message of this communication campaign, an information stand on self-palpation and a scarf-tying workshop will be held at 8 a.m. in front of the Wall House.
