Avoid swimming after heavy rains

In a press release issued this morning, the Collectivité territoriale reminds us that heavy rainfall is likely to have an impact on bathing water quality. This is due to the discharge of garbage and runoff from waterproofed areas, particularly for beaches located in the immediate vicinity of urban centers. "Short-term pollution is possible", insists the Collectivité, which specifies that it can result in microbiological contamination with "Escherichia coli, intestinal enterococci or other pathogenic micro-organisms".

This situation can present a health risk for bathers, particularly on beaches affected by possible pollution. "A return to normal conditions generally occurs in the days following the rainy episode, provided that the weather situation stabilizes", emphasizes the local authority.

Children are therefore advised not to take part in any nautical activities or educational outings at sea in the coming days.

The Collectivité points out that each bathing area is subject to two analyses every month (one by the Collectivité directly and one by the Regional Health Agency). "In the event of an unsatisfactory analysis, every effort is made to identify the possible causes of pollution and to remedy the situation", states the press release, which also warns that a decree will be issued in the near future. In the event of unsatisfactory analysis, every effort will be made to identify and remedy any possible causes of pollution," states the press release, which also states that the President of the Collectivité may issue a ban on swimming in the area concerned until satisfactory results have been obtained.

Test results are available on the Collectivité website(https://www.comstbarth.fr/baignade) and on the portal(http://baignades.sante.gouv.fr).
