Dengue: breeding grounds detected in Lorient

If it never left, dengue fever could soon return to Saint-Barth as November approaches. At least, that's what the Regional Health Agency (ARS) is suggesting in a press release issued on Tuesday October 29. In this document, the management of ARS Guadeloupe, Saint-Martin, Saint-Barthélemy explains that, "as part of the anti-vector surveillance carried out daily in the territory", it has discovered Aedes Albopictus larvae in the Lorient district. "In order to gain a better understanding of the extent of the phenomenon, additional health checks are scheduled for Thursday October 31 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Lorient district", explains the ARS.

The Agency assures that this is the first detection of this mosquito, qualified as "highly competent to transmit all arboviroses (Dengue, Chikungunya, Zika)" in the Caribbean arc. Aedes Albopictus is a subgenus of the Aedes species. A black tiger mosquito with silver markings.

In its press release, the ARS asks Lorient residents to "kindly facilitate the work of the ARS, STIS and Collectivité teams who will be carrying out treatments on sites identified as presenting proliferation risks".
