A new medical facility was inaugurated in Saint-Martin, in the Concordia neighborhood, on January 29. The clinic, named Wataki, is backed by the Manioukani group and is described as one of the most innovative projects on the island. "Designed as a true medical and human center, the clinic offers modern, accessible care tailored to the needs of the region," according to the presentation file. Offering specialized consultations, day hospitalization, and full hospitalization, the facility also aims to promote research through artificial intelligence, a training institute, and health prevention and education initiatives.
"The opening of the Wataki clinic is much more than a medical project," says Dr. Pierre Sainte-Luce, president of the Manioukani group. "It is a concrete response to the needs of the inhabitants of Saint Martin and its sister island Saint Barthélemy. " The clinic also offers functional, post-operative, and post-traumatic rehabilitation programs tailored to each patient's profile and goals. It promises a "seamless transition between consultations, treatment, follow-up, and rehabilitation."
Construction work began in 2021. It required an investment of around €22 million. The clinic employs nearly twenty people, and its managers have announced that they will be recruiting sixty more staff "in the short term." In the long term, around 100 people will work at the facility, including nurses, nursing assistants, occupational therapists, physical therapists, adapted physical activity and health teachers, and administrative staff.
