In the absence of a new parliamentary session, since the government has still not been appointed and Parliament has not been called into extraordinary session, the sénatrice de Saint-Barthélemy has resumed her duties as representative of the island and president of the Senate delegation for overseas France. From September 11 to 13, Micheline Jacques took part in the senators' seminar in Annecy. At the same time, on Tuesday, September 18, the Senate Delegation for Overseas France closed the 2023-2024 session with the adoption of the "Indian Ocean" section of its study on regional cooperation. Regionalization is one of the ways in which President Micheline Jacques wishes to combat the high cost of living, as she indicated at a press conference held after the study's adoption.
Also on Tuesday 18th, at the invitation of Senate President Gérard Larcher, Micheline Jacques took part in the Conference of Presidents.which brings together the heads of all the groups and committees around the President of the Senate and, normally, the Minister responsible for relations with Parliament. But these are just the first items on the busy agenda of Saint-Barthélemy's representative in the Senate.
Over the next few days, Micheline Jacques will devote part of her time to organizing the upcoming work of the Delegation for Overseas France. In particular, she will be working on the draft law on the adaptation of overseas legislation and the overseas day at the Congress of Mayors. The extraordinary session will open on October 1, with an agenda to be drawn up once the government has been appointed. Which is still a long way off. Also on October 1, Micheline Jacques will take part in a meeting to present the white paper resulting from the Assises de la Construction Durable Outre-Mer. A document born of a recommendation included in the 2015 report of the delegation on BTP (Building and Public Works) standards.
And in the midst of all these activities, the senator will undoubtedly find time to focus on Saint-Barthélemy's affairs, in her capacity as territorial councillor for the Saint-Barth d'Abord group.
