Senate: A Return for Micheline Jacques and a New Beginning for Jérémy Laplace

Having just been re-elected to a six-year term as senator for Saint-Barthélemy on Sunday, September 27, Micheline Jacques returned to the Senate. But the senator, who also serves as a territorial councilor for the Saint-Barth d’Abord group, did not make her return to the Palais du Luxembourg alone. In fact, the senator traveled to Paris accompanied by her alternate, Jérémy Laplace. It was a new experience for the president of the Multiprofessional Economic Chamber (CEM) of Saint-Barthélemy.
The itinerary featured the Fedom (Federation of Overseas Enterprises), the official launch of the “Choose Outre-mer” initiative—during which Micheline Jacques and Jérémy Laplace had the opportunity to speak with Overseas Territories Minister Naïma Moutchou—and the Senate elections. Unsurprisingly, Gérard Larcher was reelected president of the Senate.

Regarding the “Choose” initiative, Micheline Jacques stated: “The announcement of the creation of a public-private investment fund is a positive development. It marks the beginning of a new relationship with the government. I see this as a paradigm shift in which public policy will rely more heavily on businesses. That is, in fact, why I chose Jérémy Laplace as my alternate.”
The senator notes that several important issues concerning Saint Barthélemy await her in the near future. One concerns the operating rules for commercially used recreational vessels; the other involves social security contributions as part of the review of the social security finance bill.
