Resignation of Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu

Less than 24 hours after appointing his government, Prime Minister Sébastien Lécornu presented his resignation to President Emmanuel Macron this Monday morning. His resignation was accepted.

"The conditions were no longer met for me to perform the duties of prime minister," said Sébastien Lecornu. According to him, explains the daily Le Monde, the renunciation of Article 49.3 of the Constitution, "did not allow for this shock of saying that we can do things differently" and the composition of the government "gave rise to a reawakening of partisan appetites", "not unrelated to the forthcoming presidential election".
