Cyrille Le Vély, appointed Knight of the Legion of Honor

A symbolic date. On France’s National Day, July 14, 2026, the Official Journal announced the latest class of the Legion of Honor. Among those listed is the prefect of Saint Martin and Saint Barthélemy, Cyrille Le Vély, who was promoted to the rank of Knight for his 39 years of service. “I don’t know if I earned this decoration through sheer perseverance,” joked the state representative, who has held various positions in government service throughout his career. The prefect expressed his emotion following this appointment during his speech at the wreath-laying ceremony in front of the War Memorial. “For my family and me, this is a distinction that honors me,” said Cyrille Le Vély. The state representative also dedicated this honor to Saint Barthélemy and Saint Martin.
