Local councillor Caroline Maurel officially handed in her resignation to the President of the Collectivité, Xavier Lédée, on Wednesday January 29. This decision was confirmed to JSB on Wednesday evening. However, her sudden departure comes after several warnings from the now former local councillor. Indeed, on various occasions over the past few months, the elected representative has publicly expressed her intention to resign from her position if a new-found calm did not settle in within the governing body. Clearly, she felt that at the start of the 2025 financial year, the conditions were no longer ripe for working in peace. She announced her decision to the Chairman in a registered letter.
Who will succeed her?
Caroline Maurel was in charge of Social Affairs on the Territorial Council. She campaigned on the list led by Xavier Lédée in 2022. This list was merged with Marie-Hélène Bernier's list between the two territorial elections. Logic would therefore dictate that the next person on this precarious union list should replace Caroline Maurel on the territorial council. In all likelihood, this would be Cécile Rubino Tessier. Provided she agrees to join the assembly. Next on the list are, in order, Benoit Pedri-Stocco, Mélissa Maxor, Jordan Laplace and Sarah Olivier.
If Cécile Rubino Tessier were to take over from Caroline Maurel, the Action-Équilibre group led by Marie-Hélène Bernier and Bettina Cointre would have one more former running mate. This would bring their number of councillors to eight. This compares with six for Saint-Barth d'Abord and five for the presidential group.
