Saint-Barth -

Heritage celebration days

To celebrate the Journées du Patrimoine in Saint-Barthélemy, the Collectivité is inviting the island's population to take part in a variety of activities from Friday September 19 to Sunday. While the majority of them are scheduled for Saturday in front of the Wall House Territorial Museum, the first will take place this Friday. From 8 a.m. to 11.30 a.m., schoolchildren will be given tours of the Collectivité's architectural heritage.

Culinary fair, competitions, music
On Saturday, the program promises to be much denser. From 3 p.m. onwards, the public is invited to take over the forecourt of the Wall House to savor the dishes that will be presented at a culinary fair based on local gastronomy.
From 4.30pm to 6.30pm, two competitions will be open to the public (bookings must be made with the territorial library at 0590278907, for those aged 18 and over). The first will consist in making traditional galettes, in pairs, as each participant can be accompanied by the person of his or her choice. The aim is to make six to eight galettes on the spot. The aim is to make six to eight galettes on the spot, following every step of the process, from kneading and rising the dough to frying. All equipment and ingredients will be provided on site.
The second competition will be held at the same time. It will be a braiding competition. Participants will have to select and prepare their moorings, then create two to three braids of their choice, with a minimum length of 15 centimetres.

Fun workshop and educational trail with Saint-Barth Héritage

To coincide with the European Heritage Days, the Saint-Barth Heritage association is offering children aged 9 to 12, from 4.30 pm to 6 p.m., a fun workshop with an educational trail to explore Gustavia's architecture and understand how the buildings tell the story of the island's history, know-how and traditions. The workshop begins at the stand set up in front of the Wall House Museum, with an introduction to the island's architectural heritage. Then it's on to the Brigantin, an emblematic building of economic activity during the Swedish period, and a spotlight on a number of buildings and types of construction along the way. At the Brigantin, children create small guided sketches: a door lintel or a cistern, depending on their group. They don't need to know how to draw: it's all about observing and translating what they see. Back at the stand, creative time completes the experience, with a tracing workshop on photos of Gustavia's landmark architectural elements, and the construction of a new model.to discover the principles of balance without concrete and understand the ingenuity of the builders.

An exhibition and a discovery walk
At 6pm, the opening of the exhibition devoted to the inventory of Saint-Barth's material heritage will take place. The presentation will be given by Emilie Duhard, author of a census of the island's historical heritage.
When it comes to heritage, how can we not include clothing? So, at 6.30pm, a parade in traditional costume will take place on the forecourt. With music, of course. Music will be present throughout the afternoon, thanks to Oleïk's accordion and other local musicians. To take the stage at the beginning of the evening, the organizers have called on... Les Romantiques. How could it be otherwise? But Saturday's festivities and dancing won't mark the end of the Heritage Days.
On Sunday morning, at 8:30 a.m., local residents are invited to take part in a walk to discover Gustavia's heritage. The walk will start in front of the Arawak restaurant. Participants are asked to bring a bottle of water and walking shoes.
