Saint-Barth -

Iles du Nord placed on yellow alert

Heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast by Météo France. The storm is expected to start around 2 a.m. tonight. In its latest bulletin, published in the late afternoon of Friday August 9, the Guadeloupe weather center announced that Saint-Barthélemy and Saint-Martin had been placed on yellow alert. "In connection with the passage of tropical wave n°30 over the south of the Caribbean arc, a humid and unstable air mass will transit over the Northern Islands between Friday night and Saturday midday", it states. The bulletin also states: "A passage of disturbed weather will affect Saint-Barthélemy and Saint-Martin between tonight and mid-morning tomorrow. Sustained showers accompanied by thunderstorms, sometimes severe, may occur at any time during this period. Rainfall totals of 20 to 30 mm in one hour and 30 to 50 mm in three hours are possible. A clear improvement is expected on Saturday afternoon.

For its part, the Collectivité Terrritoriale de Saint-Barth has announced, in a press release from its President Xavier Lédée, that the construction site currently underway on the island of Saint-Barth is to be secured.curisation of the worksite currently underway on the Quais Gambier and Quais de la République, in the port of Gustavia, will take place between 6:30 am tomorrow, Saturday August 10, and around 11 pm on Sunday. This measure is not linked to the episode of heavy rain and thunderstorms predicted by Météo France for the coming night, but to anticipate the possible passage of a phenomenon during the course of next week. For the moment, it's just a tropical depression, but there's a good chance it could develop into a storm or even a cyclone.
