Saint-Barthélemy and Saint-Martin have once again been placed under yellow vigilance for "heavy rain and thunderstorms" by Météo France. In its bulletin issued at 5:10 pm on Thursday, September 12, the Guadeloupe Meteorological Center announced that showers "of heavy intensity at times and thunderstorms" were expected late next night. "They will continue throughout the day on Friday, and should be less frequent in the afternoon", adds Météo France. Rainfall totals could be locally significant, reaching 30 to 60 millimeters. These heavy showers are likely to be accompanied by wind gusts of 60 to 80 km/h.
A new episode of night-time rainfall which, if confirmed, is likely to cause some concern, particularly in Gustavia. Indeed, since the beginning of the collapse under the pavement of rue Irénée de Bruyn, on Tuesday evening in front of the hospital, the threat of a larger collapse is real. What's more, part of the wall of the gaping hole dug into the hillside in the heart of Gustavia in preparation for the construction of the future auditorium and its underground parking lot has partly come loose. Again, this was due to Tuesday's heavy rainfall.
