Gérald Darmanin, the French Minister of Justice, will pay an official visit to Saint-Barthélemy tomorrow, Saturday December 6. The Minister of Justice will arrive at around 9:30 a.m. and will go directly to the prefecture delegation in Gustavia, where he will chair a working meeting on drug trafficking in the Caribbean basin, from Saint-Barth to Martinique and on to Europe. He will fly back to Guadeloupe in the afternoon.
On Friday, Gérald Darmanin will land in Saint-Martin at around 4:45pm. He will meet with staff at the local court. This visit follows on from the Minister's announcements in early November. During a speech, he spoke of the increase in human resources for justice in overseas France, with twenty additional magistrates. He also confirmed renovations for the Basse-Terre and Baie-Mahault prisons, as well as the creation of a medical unit in Martinique. Martinique and announced the opening of a 60-place modular prison in Saint-Martin, in addition to a full-fledged judicial court.
