Turtle emergence observation completed for 2025. On Monday December 8, some of the volunteers who ply the island's beaches every day, looking for signs of egg-laying and the emergence of sea turtles, met at the Agence territoriale de l'environnement. Because, barring any surprises, while the emergence season has come to an end, the sea turtles are already preparing for 2026 with two freshly-laid nests. The meeting was therefore an opportunity for the ATE to thank all the volunteers who took part in the actions, "for their time, dedication, patience and involvement".
Secondly, it was time to take stock of the year just ended. The ATE notes that three species lay eggs on the beaches of Saint-Barth: the hawksbill turtle, the green turtle and the leatherback turtle, whose egg-laying is very rare. 34 clutches were counted and 2,188 hatchlings were able to reach the sea.
For the record, all information on turtle egg-laying monitoring can be found on the ATE website (agencedelenvironnement.fr) under the heading "Connaître", then "Suivi scientifique". The ATE stresses that "these clutches, which are still continuing, remind us how important it is to take care of our beaches on a daily basis by adopting simple gestures". By not walking on the vegetation, by not leaving litter or cigarette butts, and by respecting the ban on dogs on all beaches.
If you observe any traces of egg-laying, spawning or emergence, please call the ATE emergency number immediately (+590 690 31 70 73).
