The President of Réserves naturelles de France Visits Saint Barth

Between March 2 and 12, the president and director of Réserves naturelles de France, Michel Delmas and Marie Thomas, toured the French West Indies. They met with the teams that manage the nature reserves in Martinique, Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, and Saint Barthélemy. “Discussions focused in particular on fisheries management, land-use conflicts, the fight against poaching, invasive species, the regulation of offshore activities, sargassum management, the management of goats, cats, and chickens, environmental education, and projects to protect new areas within the framework of the Territorial COP,” summarized the two visitors, who had the opportunity to meet with staff from the Territorial Environmental Agency and its director, Sébastien Gréaux. Michel Delmas and Marie Thomas also met with the president of the Collectivité, Xavier Lédée; the president of the Environment Commission and of the Island Nature Experience association, Rudi Laplace; and the president of the ATE, Marie-Angèle Aubin. A few days after their departure, the president and director of Réserves naturelles de France were delighted to have heard “good news” during their stay in Saint Barthélemy: on March 12, the territorial council adopted “its new environmental code, a significant step forward in strengthening the protection of the island’s natural environments.”
