Clean Up - On the hunt for garbage

There are some events that shouldn't take place, but which are essential. The Rotary and Lions Club "Clean Up" is one such event. On Sunday October 12, the general public is invited to join volunteers from the two organizations in a major neighborhood clean-up operation. Newcomers to the island will no doubt think that on such a "select" island, with its focus on luxury and excellence, both locals and tourists are accustomed to respecting the environment and biodiversity. Unfortunately, Saint-Barthélemy is no exception in this respect.
Every year, participants in the "Clean Up" campaign hunt for litter and other incongruous objects carelessly tossed into nature by pigs, whether they live here or are just passing through. And there's little doubt that, this Sunday as in previous editions, the spoils will be as edifying as they are massive. Tons of garbage are regularly collected in a single morning. Cigarette butts, plastic wrappers (a classic), carcasses of household appliances, mechanical parts and much more. It's a real expedition for the Sunday cleaners, who will be on the hunt on the beaches, in the hills, on the sides of the roads...
Rotary and the Lions are therefore appealing to kind-hearted souls to come and lend a hand to the volunteers. On land, but also "under water"! "Diving clubs, snorkelers, paddlers, or simply motivated groups of friends, the seabeds of Public beach need our help", says the Rotary Club. Yes, the pig even spreads to the bays.
The meeting point for the start of the clean-up operation is set for 7 a.m. on Sunday, in the parking lot of the Super U store in Saint-Jean. At midday, after all their efforts, participants will be invited to a barbecue.
