A water tank destroyed at Sidem: EDF’s fuel oil pipe damaged

The images are striking. On the morning of Saturday, June 13, a tank at the Sidem water treatment plant in Public was destroyed. The tank reportedly exploded, causing no injuries but significant damage to the site. For now, according to an online post by the local government, water production has been suspended. The cause of the incident is not yet known.

EDF diesel pipeline torn out

The tank explosion caused collateral damage. According to our information, the pipeline used to deliver diesel fuel to the EDF power plant was severely damaged. Pierre-Yves Gillot, director of EDF Archipel Guadeloupe for the Northern Islands, confirms this. “The damage is significant,” the executive explains to the JSB. “Our subcontractors have already been contacted, and we need to clean up the area and conduct investigations. We are no longer able to fill our tanks.” Pierre-Yves Gillot notes, however, that the power plant has a fifteen-day supply. “We’re going to mobilize everyone,” he assures.

The public is therefore urged to conserve not only water but also electricity.
