Open house at the EDF power plant

To mark EDF's 50th anniversary in the Guadeloupe archipelago, Pierre-Yves Gillot, EDF SEI (Island Energy Systems) Director for the Northern Islands, is inviting the people of Saint-Barth to an open day at the Public power plant on Wednesday, October 15. The aim of the event is to retrace the history of EDF on the island, to promote its businesses and missions, and to "strengthen our close ties with all local partners", explains EDF management. It will also be an opportunity to raise visitors' awareness of the challenges of energy sobriety and to awaken new vocations.
This operation comes just a few weeks after the visit to Saint-Barthélemy of Marie-Line Bassette (JSB1632), Regional Director of EDF Archipel Guadeloupe. The director came to meet the elected representatives and technicians of the Collectivité territoriale to discuss the renovation project for the Public power plant. The project is estimated to cost between 380 and 400 million euros. Marie-Line Bassette told JSB: "We wanted to talk about how we see developments and how we take all the elements into account. The multi-annual energy program (PPE) covers a fifteen-year period. As industrialists, when we build this plant, it's for a 25-year period. "
To build this new power plant, a provisional construction period of seven years has been put forward. The big difficulty we're having in terms of scheduling is that we're projecting from the signing of the PPE to establish the stages," explained the regional manager. But we've been waiting for several years. "
During the open day, the public will be able to see for themselves the need to replace some of the engines. Particularly the older ones, which were installed in the mid-1980s and regularly "cough". This equipment is having a hard time keeping up with the constant rise in electricity consumption on the island over the years.

The local authority looks into "electric mobility

A meeting was held on October 3 at the Hôtel de la Collectivité territoriale on the theme of "the future of electric mobility". Elected representatives and professionals from the electric vehicle sector attended a presentation of the results of a study financed by the Collectivité to examine the future of electric mobility.to determine the "feasibility of an electric vehicle charging infrastructure on the island". The study was financed by the European Green Overseas program (steered by Expertise France) and conducted by Tactis, for an unspecified amount. "While pointing out the risks that electric vehicles can pose for the island, such as over-consumption of electricity during peak periods, batteries in a state of disrepair, the study also highlighted the need to take into account the impact of electric vehicles on the environment.riod, end-of-life batteries and fossil fuel-based electricity production), the study recommends three ambitions", writes the Collectivité in an online publication. These are: to set up a system for disposing of end-of-life lithium-ion batteries; to equip the public domain with controllable charging stations and photovoltaic shading devices; to set up a system for the recycling of end-of-life lithium-ion batteries; to set up a system for the recycling of end-of-life lithium-ion batteries.and offer "flexibility services" to the island's electricity system. According to the Collectivité's publication, Saint-Barthélemy has "one of the highest rates of electric vehicles in France".
